Stuck Behind You
What is actually happening
Your lower body is doing its job almost too well. The hips fire and clear, but your arms never get the memo to come along. The club gets left stranded behind you, trapped deep on the inside with the face hanging open. At P6, the club should be delivering down the line. Instead it's parked behind your trail hip with nowhere to go but right.
What it costs you
From stuck, there are exactly two outcomes, and they live on opposite sides of the course. Hold on and the ball blocks right. Save it with your hands and the face snaps shut into a hook. Fairways get hard to hit inside that trade. Sync the arms up with the turn and the club never gets stranded in the first place.
Your hands stay in front of your chest the whole way down, like you're carrying a beach ball between your arms while your body turns.
Split-Grip Sync Swings
Take your normal grip, then slide your trail hand down the handle until a full grip-width of space separates your hands. Now make three-quarter swings at an easy pace. The split grip changes the club's geometry so your arms can't trail the body without you feeling it: the moment the club starts dropping behind you, the trail arm gets yanked and the whole swing tells on itself. What you're after is the chest and hands turning through together, club out in front of you the entire way down, like the two of you agreed on a route before leaving the top. Make eight split-grip swings, brushing the grass each time. Then hit five balls with your normal grip and the same together feeling. Film one down the line and check P6. The shaft points at the ball line, not at the fence behind your hip.
