Casting

What is actually happening

You are releasing the wrist angle at the start of the downswing — throwing the clubhead outward from the top instead of retaining lag into the delivery zone.

What it costs you

Casting spends your speed before the ball. It adds loft, costs 15–25 yards with the irons, and usually arrives with a scoopy, weak strike.

The cue

Feel like the butt of the club leads the clubhead down — hands to the ball first, clubhead last.

The drill

Pump Drill

From the top, pump the hands down to trouser-pocket height three times keeping the wrist angle fully loaded, then on the third pump swing through the ball. The repetition teaches your hands what "holding lag" feels like at speed.
